Food & Hotel Asia 2018

Apr 24 - 27, 2018
Tuesday-Friday
Singapore
Trade Show - International

Singapore has one of the most trade-dependent economies in the Asia-Pacific region. It is the 14th largest exporter and the 16th largest importer in the world. In 2015, exports were the equivalent of 118% of GDP. Such a high export-to-GDP ratio can be attributed to the fact that the city-state serves as a re-export hub for the region. Furthermore, Singapore is almost entirely dependent on imports for all of its food requirements with virtually no local agricultural production. There are no import tariffs or excise taxes for all food and beverages, except for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. However, a Goods and Services Tax of 7 percent (GST) is levied for all goods and services at the point of distribution.

Singapore has one of the highest per capita GDPs ($52,310) in the world, so it is also a good market for U.S. high value products. In 2015, the U.S. exported a record $688 million in consumer-oriented products to Singapore, with sales expected at growth of 10 percent in 2016. In 2016, beverages ($54,843,190) and edible meat ($28,864,828) were the leading Southern U.S products exported to Singapore. Fresh fruits experienced a significant increase from $96,490 in 2015 to $219,410 in 2016, along with fresh vegetables with $192,803 in 2015 and $387,388 in 2016. Dairy products ($1,415,709) and prepared fruits and vegetables ($6,164,773) remained successful categories as well. Leading U.S. prospects are fresh fruits, processed fruit and vegetable, fresh/chilled/frozen/processed red meats, dairy products including cheese, tree nuts and wine and beer.
