Taiwan Pet Food Trade Show

The USDA Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) at the American Institute in Taiwan is pleased to announce the virtual pet food trade show event that will take place August 17 to 19, 2021. The virtual trade show will link U.S. exporters of pet food products to potential buyers in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s pet food imports have more than doubled over the past decade, growing from US$88 million in 2010 to US$194 million in 2020. The United States is the leading supplier of premium pet food and treats to Taiwan. ATO Taipei will provide a unique opportunity for U.S. pet food product exporters to expand into the Taiwan market by connecting one-on-one with potential buyers through virtual business-to-business meetings set up in advance by FAS.

  • The Taiwan pet food market in 2020 stayed strong on import demand, with five percent growth to US$194 million.
  • Mid-priced and premium brands from the United States, Canada, and France have seen growing demand over the past decade.
  • Pet ownership in Taiwan continues to experience steady growth. Dog ownership notched up to 1.86 million in 2020, while cat ownership advanced 71.5% to 974,400 from 2015 level.
  • Potential products for export include: dry and can dog and cat food, pet treats, rodent food, bird feed, and reptiles feed.

Please note that pet food manufacturers must apply to the Taiwanese government for inspection and approval of their production facility.
