Description: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) in Japan contracted with Meros Consulting to commission research into the Japanese market and regulatory requirements for imports of hemp fiber, hemp seed and seed-oil products, as well as CBD and other hemp extracts. FAS Japan in partnership with the National Industrial Hemp Council (NIHC) is pleased to invite Meros Consulting to present the results of this research summarizing the current market trends and regulatory environment for industrial hemp-derived products in Japan.

USDA’s Foreign Agriculture Service represents the USDA in Embassies and Consulates around the world. In Japan, FAS’s Office of Agricultural Affairs and Agricultural Trade Offices undertake research and promotional activities to further U.S. agricultural industry’s export market development objectives.

The NIHC is a USDA cooperator, funded in part by USDA’s Market Access Program funds to provide export development assistance through market research, trade servicing and export promotion. NIHC represents the hemp industry from farm to retail.

Meros Consulting is a Tokyo-based strategy consulting firm that focuses exclusively on issues and challenges in global food, agriculture and natural resource markets. Meros has worked extensively to support US industries’ market development in Japan and throughout Asia.

The hemp industry has an estimated worldwide value of over $10 billion, including a robust market in industrial products for clothing, insulation, hemp-crete and automotive interior manufacturing, seed for food and feed, and resin products for health and wellness, including cosmetics and consumables.

The results of the research carried out by Meros Consulting are available in a 3-part series of reports at https://www.usdajapan.org/market-research/ under the heading “Hemp-derived products.”

The presentation on December 13 will be followed by a Q&A session. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity!
