With the economy showing signs of stabilization and a recovery in consumer demand, export opportunities for U.S. agriculture are taking off in Venezuela. From 2019 to 2021, U.S. agricultural exports to Venezuela have grown by over 250 percent, reaching $631 million in 2021. So far in 2022, Venezuela has imported $63 million in consumer-oriented agricultural products from the United States.

Abigail Mackey, Agricultural Attaché, Foreign Agricultural Service Bogota

Abby Mackey covers Venezuela from the U.S. Embassy Bogota where she arrived in March 2022. She is a first tour officer with USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. She joined FAS in August 2020, serving on the Trade Missions and Shows Team to promote U.S. agricultural exports with importers from around the world. Following that, she transitioned to the Trade Policy and Geographic Affairs team to address global barriers to U.S. seafood and pork trade. She received a Master of Development Practice from the University of California Berkeley in 2020 and holds a B.S. in Environmental Policy from The Ohio State University.

Adalberto Perez, Agricultural Specialist, Foreign Agricultural Service Caracas

Adalberto Perez is an Agricultural Specialist with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service Office of the U.S. Embassy in Caracas. His portfolio includes commodity analysis, sanitary and phytosanitary issues, biotechnology, trade monitoring, and food security. He is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and has pursued graduate studies in public health, food technology, and agricultural economics. He joined the Foreign Agricultural Service in 2016.
