About VAGA

The Virginia Apple Growers Association is a non-profit agricultural commodity board that represents all Virginia fresh apple growers and shippers and apple processors. It serves as a point of contact for national and international marketing efforts on behalf of our industry.

Virginia Apples

Virginia has an apple for every reason and every season. Eleven major apple varieties are commercially grown in Virginia, and each variety has its own unique characteristics. Virginia's Red and Golden Delicious varieties are the all-time favorites. In addition, our Red Delicious apples generally are crisper, sweeter, and juicier than apples from most other apple producing areas. Virginia's York, Winesap, Rome, Stayman, Gala, Ginger Gold, and Granny Smith apples have a unique Virginia mountain-grown flavor - delicious as a snack or for apple pies and cakes, fried apples, syrup, and sauce. Because of their proximity to major markets, Virginia apples are economical to transport.

In addition to the basic building blocks for superior nutrition, we add some very important "extras" not available in most pet foods, including lecithin, supplementary Ester-C® brand of vitamin C, yucca schidigera extract, and chelated minerals.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant incorporates strict quality control procedures. We rigorously test the raw materials coming into our plants, as well as the finished product going out, to ensure purity and quality for optimum nutrition.

Processed Products

Virginia processed apple products are a major component of the state's apple industry with approximately 75% of Virginia -grown apples processed into juices, ciders, sauce, apple butter, chips, pie filling, vinegar, and slices. Virginia has something for everyone, consumers, retailers, and food service.

Juice - Our juice is produced in different styles and sizes to please everyone. All are 100% juice and are pasteurized for safety and consistency.

Sauce - Our applesauce is available in sizes to fit all occasions. Especially popular with kids is the 4-oz. Cups which contain 100% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C.

Slices - Virginia is a major producer of one of the premium varieties used for slices. Perfect for apple pie and other baked uses; our slices have an exceptional flavor that will please!

Other Products - Vinegar was one of the first products made in Virginia. It is used extensively in home canning and table use as well as a myriad of cleaning uses throughout the house. Our apple butter is a great tasting spread for muffins, bread, and bagels.

Sparkling Apple ciders - Virginia's unique varieties of sparkling apple beverages, ciders and juices include noted brands-some nationally recognized. Packaged similar to a champagne bottle, perfect as an alternative to alcohol at any occasion.
