ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE & INDUSTRIES TO HOLD INDIA MARKET BRIEFING

MONTGOMERY, AL – Suppliers of food and agricultural products interested in the growing market of India can learn more about opportunities for them to promote their products there during a seminar to be held October 22 in Birmingham. The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries will offer a program featuring speakers from the Southern U.S. Trade Association (SUSTA) and two in-country consultants, Atul and Devna Khanna, assisting with the promotion of southern U.S. food and agricultural products in India.

SUSTA began its India Initiative in 2004, a long-term project seeking to educate the Indian trade and consumers about agricultural products from the southern U.S., including grocery items, pecans, wine and spirits, and other traditional southern fare. As a member of SUSTA, the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries has taken an active role promoting these products in India, managing promotional events such as trade shows booths, trade missions, and chef seminars. These activities, called Generic promotions, provide an opportunity for southern U.S. suppliers to connect with key players in the Indian market and gauge interest in their products. SUSTA receives funding from the United States Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) to carry out these Generic promotions, which benefit at least two companies or a commodity.

To participate in the India market briefing on October 22, contact the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries Office of International Trade at (334) 240-7232.

More information about SUSTA and the India Initiative can be found on SUSTA's website, www.susta.org.
