Espree Animal Products of Grapevine, Texas, was exporting to one country before applying to SUSTA's Market Access Program (MAP) Branded. After hearing about the Branded program from another local company that had participated through SUSTA, Espree decided to explore other markets for its natural, pesticide-free animal care products by applying for Branded funds. Three years later, Espree has added 16 distributors in countries throughout the world thanks to the matching funds the company has received from SUSTA's Branded program.
The paperwork involved in doing business overseas, but find it becomes easier with more experience. As Espree's international presence grew, the company adjusted to the paperwork and logistics required when doing business overseas. "After the first few international orders, we fell into a process. Now production, shipping, invoicing, etc., is an easy process," said Lisa Jordan, Sales and Marketing Director of Espree.
Although companies must follow MAP Branded guidelines in order for their international promotions to qualify for reimbursement, Jordan stressed the importance of knowing how the program works and using it to your company's best advantage. "Be precise while following the rules and guidelines. Be patient with the process," she said. "Utilize all that is offered to promote your company." Jordan also noted that companies can make the most of Branded funds while partnering with overseas distributors: "Offer your customers the knowledge of the program and encourage them to utilize the benefits for their business growth as well."
Espree plans to continue enter new markets by attending international trade shows and offering marketing tools to their distributors with the help of the Branded program. "The whole international growth has been extremely prosperous," Jordan said. "SUSTA has allowed us to push forward into new markets financially. The growth of our business can be attributed to participation in SUSTA's MAP program."
